VIII: Week Thirteen Results

The Playoffs are who we thought they were: The top six have been set since week nine, and with the regular season officially concluded, we have our playoff seedings finalized:

  1. Pawnee Pride 10-3
  2. Hill Valley McFlys 8-5
  3. Revis Islanders 8-5
  4. Deputy Van Halens 8-5
  5. Phoenix Uprising 8-5
  6. Manitoba MooseCrew 8-5

It's the first time in league history that all six playoff teams have eight wins or more. Every team with a winning record made it to the big dance, something that had occurred twice with the six team playoff: in 2013 and 2010. There's no controversy about who belonged in or out- one of those six deserving teams will hoist the Larkspur Bowl at the end of the month.

Week twelve's biggest move was Manitoba, dropping from the two seed to the six seed with their loss to the Islanders. That left the second seed (and its first round bye) up for grabs by way of the highest point total. Hill Valley was on the brink in week eight; Five weeks later they have sewn up a ticket to the league semifinal.

Larkspur Bowl VIII bracket coverage will receive blog entries in the coming days, but the first round matchups are set:

ISLANDERS vs MOOSECREW
VAN HALENS vs UPRISING

In the consolation bracket we'll see six teams duking it out for draft position, the top six picks in 2017 up for grabs:

  1. Saskatoon Sasquatch 6-7
  2. Malibu Deadbeats 6-7
  3. HCM Lead Farmers 5-8
  4. Savannah Petes 5-8
  5. Toronto LTP 5-8
  6. South Park Cows 5-8
Saskatoon and Malibu receive byes guaranteeing them both top four picks in next year's draft. Saskatoon has not made the Larkspur Bowl Playoffs since 2012, Malibu has not had a berth since 2011. Below them, the Lead Farmers (last appearance: 2010) will face LBVII Champion South Park, while Savannah (last appearance: 2014) will face Toronto, who made the playoffs last season.
  • 13. New York's Finest 5-8
  • 14. Oakwood Drivers 4-9

For Oakwood this had been inevitable for a few weeks, as the team was the first eliminated, and have now finished 14th in back to back seasons, and out of the playoffs in all four of their attempts. New York won enough to be in the Consolation Bracket, but didn't score enough- they're out on points. Champions in 2014, and a 12-1 top seed in 2015 (the best regular season record in LB history), the Finest have to be disappointed in this campaign. New York will draft 7th in next year's draft; Oakwood will once again be selecting from the 8th spot.

Week 13 Matchups

POWER OUTPUT:

  1. ISL 228: The Islanders did enough to cost MMC their bye, but come 27 points shy of claiming it for themselves
  2. HVM 226: A dominant showing in the final two weeks give Hill Valley a LB bye after settling for two CB wins
  3. PHX 225: They were in with a win or a loss, but better to go in with a win. Two straight zeros at flex concerning.
  4. LTP 213: A fine showing, but uneven performance the story as LTP miss LB po for 1st time since inaugural 2012
  5. MMC 202: Manitoba losing their bye was just regression catching up to them- still primed for a playoff run.
  6. SPC 202: Took on a lot of risk with the backend draft picks & championship hangover. Dangerous in CB!
  7. PAW 201: With nothing to play for in wks 13 and 14, they could afford to look ahead. Still got the W though.
  8. DVH 194: Things looked a bit dodgy in the first quarter, but Deputy settled in and took care of business.
  9. SAV 190: 190+ in their last six games, this team could overcome injuries and set themselves up with a prime pick.
  10. SAS 167: The odds were long and they needed a miracle. They didn't get one, but should secure Julio in 2017.
  11. MDB 147: The Deadbeats were not officially dead until this week; They'll have their 6th top 5 pick in 7 years.
  12. NYF 145: New York needed to either win, or have Savannah win. Neither happened and their season is over.
  13. OAK 142: Nice to get a W, their 3rd in the final 4 weeks. They'll try again next year.
  14. HCM 133: After twelve weeks without a clunker, the Lead Farmers appeared demoralized. Need to rally for CB.
