Trade Review: the Linebacker-Running Back Market

Trade Twenty-Seven: Flint/Hill Valley

In the same vein as the recent Aldon Smith/Willis McGahee trade, Flint and Hill Valley have exchanged a depth RB for an elite LB. Shane Vereen joins a McFly team desperate for a healthy running back. Unfortunately, he is not a healthy running back, but he is close to returning from a broken wrist. His role is yet to be determined- he was fantastic in his only game this season, the caveat obviously that it was his only game this season. Still, with Arian Foster already ruled out for week 10 and his status going forward murky at best, Hill Valley needed something to supplement Darren Sproles (probable- concussion) and newly acquired Trent Richardson (questionable- ankle). The Aristocrats have peeled back a few levels of their depth- the aforementioned Richardson suited up in the brown and green last Sunday, before coming to Hill Valley (by way of California) while Flint waiver claim Doug Martin's season officially ended on injured reserve today. But with Zac Stacy, Lamar Miller, Ben Tate, and Mike Tolbert, they retain plenty of good options at RB, and Patrick Willis offers a very nice upgrade to a linebacker corps that was lacking identity. He suffered some injuries earlier in the season, but has scored double digits for three straight weeks, and that should be his base line going forward- big plays will come.
