Trade Review: Blockbuster Redux

Trade Twenty-Four: Hill Valley/California

These two teams linked up for a blockbuster on September 26th, with the McFlys getting the better of it- of they landed WRs Josh Gordon and Vincent Jackson in the deal, giving up WRs Mike Wallace and Miles Austin, along with RB Bilal Powell. After some decent initial production, Powell has since received his walking papers from the Swag, while Austin has been unable to suit up since changing zip codes. And now WR Mike Wallace returns to Hill Valley, the circle complete.

The trade also involves two recently uprooted players: RB Trent Richardson has gone from Flint, to California, and now to Hill Valley, and WR Steve Smith who has gone from Silver City, to Hill Valley to California. Neither suited up for their transitive teams before getting moved again. Both have delivered only middling production to date.

The final pieces of the trade are the most interesting: the McFlys move disappointing (but ostensibly healthy) RB Ray Rice and TE Jason Witten for TE Rob Gronkowski. Gronk, fully healthy, is a game changer, while Witten and Rice should solidify the Swag's foundation through the regular season's final month. Both teams have undergone dramatic transformations this week, and this deal will seal their team's ultimate fate, for better or worse.

Hill Valley receives TE Gronkowski, RB Trent Richardson, & WR Mike Wallace

California receives RB Ray Rice, TE Jason Witten, & WR Steve Smith

Combining both trades, including only active players leaves us with:

Hill Valley ends up with WRs Josh Gordon, Vincent Jackson, Mike Wallace, TE Rob Gronkowski, and RB Trent Richardson, comprising 5/7ths of their current starting lineup.

California ends up with RB Ray Rice, TE Jason Witten, and WR Steve Smith.
