In Week Thirteen the South Park Cows defeated the Pawnee Pride when the final play of the game was ruled a deflected pass by South Park defensive lineman Cameron Jordan. The prolonged official review gives the COWS a winning record at 7-6, and if not for another review going against them (Week six against Philadelphia) we would have seen South Park replace Binghamton in the bracket. Where, in this parallel universe, they would have defeated Savannah in round one. IT'S A GAME OF INCHES BOYS!
BACK TO REALITY: The only change is that the Cows are the #7 seed and the Pride the #8 seed, finishing at 6-7. And now, that both brackets have progressed to the semifinals:
Week 14 Matchups
This year's bracket features only two returner's from last year's edition, and both sit with byes this week. Three seed Savannah is back in the dance after a two year absence. Four seed New York fell all the way to 13th last year after being the #1 seed and champion in the previous two year- they're back again for the third time in four years. Five seed HCM had not tasted the playoffs since 2010 despite scoring in the league's top half in four of the past five years. And six seed Binghamton is capping off their first Larkspur Bowl season with a berth.
#3 SAVANNAH defeats #6 BINGHAMTON
A fairly pedestrian affair where Binghamton had their only dud of the season when it counted most, and as such Savannah won by default. Veteran running back Frank Gore was outstanding for the Petes, dashing, plowing, and straight up grinding through the snow to pile on the Snipers, who just looked flat- after Mohammed Sanu's inspired touchdown early a concussion to rookie sensation Alvin Kamara really took the wind out of their sails; and even their optimal lineup (Cam Newton and Jordan Howard) would have left Bing a bit short: The Juju Smith-Schuster suspension looms incredibly large considering Dontrelle Inman put up a goose egg in his stead. Savannah captain Luke Kuechly was predictably dominant, while Julio Jones and Alshon Jeffery did enough to secure the win.
OPotG: SAV RB Frank Gore: 37 touches, 140 total yards, (20.5 points)
DPotG: SAV CB Darius Slay: 6 tackles, 2 PD, INT, FR (23.1 points)
#5 HCM CITY defeats #4 NEW YORK
The Lead Farmers showed UP in this one, putting up the fifth best score in league history in a pivotal matchup with a former champion. New York did not roll over- scoring well enough to win, but falling victim to the perils of seeding. Both quarterbacks were sharp- Big Ben Roethlisberger showing a ton of guts standing up against a revitalized Dak Prescott. HCM RB Le'Veon Bell was just a little bit more unstoppable than NYF couterpart Todd Gurley.but each did their part for their team, as did both aerial assaults, up and down the line: Golden Tate and Jared Cook booked especially noteworthy performances. It came down to the defenses- Sean Davis, Wesley Woodyard, and the Lead Farmer unit answered the call; The Finest did not: Christian Jones was almost invisible, while Ryan Kerrigan was staunched and Zach Brown was injured.
OPotG: HCM RB Le'Veon Bell: 125 total yards, 3 Touchdowns (36.7 points)
DPotG: HCM S Sean Davis: 12 tackles, 2 TFL, PD, INT (30.75 points)
In the consolation bracket we see teams jockeying for draft position in 2018, which goes like this: 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 5, 6, 3, 4, 2, and 1. As such, the winner of the bracket gets top choice next year, then down the line with the loser of week 15's consolation drafting sixth overall.
#9 HILL VALLEY defeats #12 OAKWOOD
OPotG: HVM WR Michael Thomas: 10 catches, 117 yards, TD (26.4 points)
DPotG: HVM LB Deion Jones: 13 tackles, 3 TFL, 2 PD, INT (34.5 points)
#11 MAR-A-LAGO defeats #10 PHILADELPHIA
OPotG: MAL WR Antonio Brown: 11 catches, 213 yards (35.4 points)
DPotG: MAL LB Brandon Marshall: 7 tackles, 1.0 Sack, 3 TFL, FF (24.5 points)
