XI: Week Thirteen Recap

Well...
That's it.

The regular season is over.

Our six playoff teams are in, with the top five teams in overall points progressing to the tournament:
*1. HILL VALLEY McFLYS (2777.27, 11-2, #1 Seed)
*2. NEW YORK'S FINEST (2748.42, 8-5, #3 Seed)
*3. SOUTH PARK COWS (2721.10, 7-6, #5 Seed)
*4. HCM LEAD FARMERS (2665.41, 8-5, #4 Seed)
*5. PAWNEE PRIDE (2606.82, 9-4, #2 Seed)

As you can see, the wins and losses caused by weekly variance played a role in seeding, but the cream of the league's crop, every team that averaged over 200 points per game, is on to the next round. Just desserts for capable managers.

But that leaves one seed at large, and it goes to the final team with a winning record:
6. PHOENIX UPRISING (2573.42, 6-7)
7. JERSEY SANITATION CREW (2561.37, 6-7)
8. SAVANNAH PETES (2541.75, 5-8)
*9. OHIO TOMMY BOYS (2438.38, 7-6, #6 Seed)
10. MAR-A-LAGO GRABBERS (2430.49, 4-9)
11. CARMEL RUDY-TOOS (2416.07, 6-7)
12. BINGHAMTON SNIPERS (2402.51, 6-7)

The Tommy Boys started the season off with a loss before reeling off six straight victories; Four of which were bonafide by 200+ points, though luck played a role: Their week 3 victory over South Park was by .6 of a point. Two other times the Boys showed poorly, but their opponents, (bottom ranked Deputy and Philly) scored 147 and 136 respectively, each losing their matchups more than Ohio won them. Despite not eclipsing 200 points in any of the last seven games (and going 1-6 during that time) Ohio backs into the playoffs, ending the playoff appearance streaks of Phoenix (9 years) and Binghamton (2 years) in the process.

At the bottom of the pack are the two teams that fail to make the consolation bracket:
13. DEPUTY VAN HALENS (2356.81, 4-9)
14. SOUTH PHILLY RUM HAM (2200.31, 4-9)

This is the Van Halens second straight year missing the playoffs, after taking the #1 seed in LBIX and the #4 seed in LBVIII. The team will have an opportunity to break (or continue!) that streak in 2020, as they evade the chopping point by a healthy 156.81 points. Meanwhile, South Philly is in serious jeopardy- the franchise (known as the Atlanta Rage 2009-2013, and as the Saskatoon Sasquatch 204-2016) is a charter member, but has not managed a playoff appearance or a winning record since 2012. Should the B-Division Champion (Manitoba leads with four weeks left to go) decide to ascend, the Rum Ham will have to drop a division in 2020 and earn their way back to the A-Series.

We'll get into season retrospectives and the playoff matchups in later posts.
For now, we look at the week's final season in all of its glory, and all of its shame.

Week 13 Matchups

WEEK 13 POWER RANKINGS:
  1. NYF 249: Former champs (VI) look like serious contender behind Lamar Jackson
  2. SPC 237: Former champs (VII) look like serious contenders despite no "superstars"
  3. PHX 236: Late season surge is not enough. AJ Green still has not played a snap
  4. BIN 198: 4 point loss to PAW in week 9 keeps them from 3 straight 7 win playoff appearances
  5. HVM 192: The McFlys are the favorite, as they look to win trophy in 3 out of 4 years
  6. DVH 185: Disaster year not as bad as it looked, pair of solid (if losing) efforts to close out
  7. SAV 183: Went 1-2 in games decided by single digits, lost another by 12. Big what if in '19?
  8. JSC 180: Came up against an old vet playing spoiler, ending their inaugural year on sour note
  9. HCM 179: A mostly ceremonial win, but team has won 8, 7, and now 8 in past three years
  10. PAW 171: Team will have a week off to figure out a strategy to rebound from back to back Ls
  11. OTB 156: TY is the 10th offensive goose-egg on the year, half of whom were inactive. Bad
  12. MAL 146: The Grabbers live to fight another day (and year) after uneven season
  13. CRT 131: WOMP. Came up (very) short in a very winnable must-win game to end year early
