XI: The Pawnee Pride are Larkspur Bowl Champions!

It's official! Taking perhaps the unlikeliest path to victory in Larkspur Bowl history, the Pawnee Pride have finally joined the champions table, as Kevin King managed to hold (and expand upon!) a six point lead with DL1 Danielle Hunter and legendary QB Aaron Rodgers rendered moot in the game's final act. Disruptive linebacker Chandler Jones was named the game's MVP, scoring 31 points, helping to absolve fellow pass rushers Nick Bosa (0) and Shaq Barrett (2) of blame had the Pride fallen short for a third time.

For Hill Valley, it was a stunning blow- the team was on the verge of winning three titles in four years, which would have cemented their claim as the league's second dynasty. Instead, they're left 2-3 in the big game all time- still good for the second most appearances and second most championships, but a gut punch for a team that went 11-2, led the league in points, and had a 97% chance of victory heading into the matchup's finale. They'll have to endure a cold winter, before the rejuvenation of spring and another August Draft gives them an opportunity to strike back.

Week 16 Matchups

LARKSPUR BOWL BRACKET
#2 PAWNEE PRIDE defeat #1 HILL VALLEY McFLYS
It cannot be overstated how unlikely this victory was: neck and neck through three quarters, the end game looked to be underwhelming- the numbers were stacked against Pawnee. Kevin King's triumphant performance will go down in the league's lore; 4 tackles, a pick, a PD, and a TFL. Also of note, Pawnee's jumbo package (Kittle & Higbee both scoring 17) and the return of the Mack. For Hill Valley, Aaron Rodgers was a huge letdown in the big spot, wasting big time showings from undrafted nobodies like Breshad Perriman, Mike Gesicki, and Donald Payne.
OPOG: WR Michael Thomas PAW (29.6)
DPOG: LB Chandler Jones PAW (31.00)

3rd PLACE GAME
#4 HCM LEAD FARMERS defeat #3 NEW YORK'S FINEST
In the annual game that nobody wants to play, the Lead Farmers put a little more damper on Lamar Jackson's MVP season, capturing the bronze by way of their dynamic RB duo, McCaffrey and Jones and an all around tremendous showing from their defense. The only reason this matchup was as close as it was is because Jameis Winston's luck. Beyond Lamar Jackson, Tyler Boyd had a monster day for the Finest, while Lavonte David shored up the defense and Todd Gurley remained viable.
OPOG: QB Lamar Jackson NYF (35.02)
DPOG: LB Anthony Walker HCM (25.00)

7th PLACE GAME
#7 PHOENIX UPRISING defeat #9 CARMEL RUDY-TOOS
The Uprising had their finest hour at the right time, but in the wrong bracket. Their worst season in a decade will deliver the top draft pick slot, thanks largely to 2019's top overall pick, Saquon Barkley, making his case to repeat despite an injury plagued season. Carmel barely stood a chance here, with nine of seventeen starters scoring in single digits; Joey Bosa's 15 led the way, but the franchise's sophomore season will start with the #2 draft slot.
OPOG: RB Saquon Barkley PHX (52.80)
DPOG: LB Fred Warner PHX (31.80)

9th PLACE GAME
#12 SAVANNAH PETES defeat #8 JERSEY CREW
Savannah's redemption tour ends with a claim on the #3 draft slot; They were in the #2 spot this year, selecting RB Alvin Kamara ahead of #3 Christian McCaffrey, and regretting it nearly all season- Kamara's final performance was one of only three 20+ scores on the year, with the first two coming within the season's first three weeks. Jersey's first season nets them the #3 slot in the draft, and should afford them an opportunity to build a team in their fashion, with one year under the belt.
OPOG: RB Alvin Kamara SAV (29.60)
DPOG: LB Dante Fowler Jr. (30.50)

2020 DRAFT ORDER (SLOT SELECTIONS)

  1. PHOENIX UPRISING
  2. CARMEL RUDY-TOOS
  3. SAVANNAH PETES

  11. HCM LEAD FARMERS
  12. NEW YORK'S FINEST
  13. HILL VALLEY McFLYS

B-DIVISION PENULTIMATE RANKINGS
The inaugural B-Division champion will be crowned this Sunday, with Manitoba looking likely to claim the 14th seed in the Larkspur Bowl, relegating the PHILADELPHIA RUM HAM to the B-Division, with an intention to expand the B-Division roster to six or eight teams for 2020.
  1. MANITOBA MOOSECREW 4063.14
  2. NITTANY LIONS 3621.78
  3. BREWTANG KILLA BEEZ 3497.22
  4. TORONTO LES TRES PETITES 3377.99

XI: The Final Week

This year's rematch has an 'unfinished business' feel, as last year's competitors face off for the trophy once again. XI: Week Fifteen Recap

For the first time in Larkspur Bowl history, we're getting a rematch in the big game- a year ago, Hill Valley defeated Pawnee to capture their second title. Now, they can defend the Silver Chalice against a familiar foe, or the Pride can capture what has eluded them for years- hoping the third time is the charm.

Before we look at brackets, previews, and draft position, lets recap the season's penultimate action:

Week 15 Matchups

LARKSPUR BOWL BRACKET:
#1 Hill Valley McFlys defeat #4 HCM Lead Farmers
The Lead Farmers took an early lead on Sunday, with Jameis Winston and Christian McCaffrey doing their part to punch a ticket to HCM's second ever Larkspur Bowl, but it was to no avail. A little bit of controversy ended up not mattering, as Hill Valley simply overpowered their opposition, with twelve players notching double digit output, with the surprise MVP being former bust Breshad Perriman being the difference. (The margin of victory ended up being Perriman + late addition Nick Vannett.)
OPOG: QB Jameis Winston HCM (36.42)
DPOG: LB Jayon Brown HVM (21.0)

#2 Pawnee Pride defeat #3 New York's Finest
While Lamar Jackson kicked things off showing why he is the present and the future of the NFL for the Finest, Drew Brees answered late showing he's just as present and accounted for, pitching a nearly perfect game and turning a nail biter into a no doubter on Monday night. Teaming with WR1 Michael Thomas to close out the game, Pawnee got good efforts up and down the roster, while New York's trio of WRs (Thielen, Deebo, and Boyd) could muster little in the clutch.
OPOG: QB Lamar Jackson NYF (38.58)
DPOG: LB Lavonte David NYF (23.00)

5TH PLACE GAME:
#5 South Park Cows defeat #6 Ohio Tommy Boys
Neither of these teams were in the game they wanted to be this week, but both showed up fervently in the 5th place game, which is probably still too close to call. For the time being, South Park edges out Ohio with incredible efforts from Miles Sanders, Tyler Lockett, Tre'Davious White, Travis Kelce, and KJ Wright. But Nick Chubb, Joe Mixon, and a fierce Ohio defense led by Jaire Alexander have the results under review. For now, South Park gets the #9 slot, Ohio #10.
OPOG: RB Miles Sanders SPC (38.20)
DPOG: CB Tre'Davious White SPC (28.45)

CONSOLATION BRACKET:
#7 Phoenix Uprising defeat #11 Savannah Petes
The Uprising's late season surge nets another victory, with Saquon and Julio Jones looking like the first round picks they were drafted as. Neither team's defenses looked particularly inspired, with the bulk of the scoring done by offensive playmakers in this one; Keenan Allen and Cooper Kupp were the scorers in Savannah.
OPOG: WR Julio Jones PHX (35.90)
DPOG: LB Fred Warner PHX (16.50)

#9 Carmel Rudy-Toos defeat #8 Jersey Sanitation Crew
Carmel upends the Crew, as the Rudy Toos have played with a lot of heart the past two weeks, after blowing their shot at the six seed. Zeke and Gilmore take the POG honors, but credit is due to a roster that has rebuilt itself in the late season, even now losing 4th round pick Josh Gordon to indefinite suspension. Fellow newcomer Jersey also milked utility out of their squad this year- both teams figure to compete again in 2020.
OPOG: RB Ezekiel Elliots CRT (33.50)
DPOG: CB Stephon GIlmore CRT (37.20)

11TH PLACE GAME:
#12 Mar-A-Lago Grabbers defeat #10 Binghamton Snipers
Another 'final' game that is too close to call, Pat Mahomes and the Grabbers have secured 11th place for now, despite Chris Carson rumbling and Bobby Wagner swarming. This was not the endgame either team envisioned when they started their years off 2-1, but, both have spots in the league next season, with the fifth (MAL) and sixth (BIN) draft slots in hand.
OPOG: RB Chris Carson BIN (29.00)
DPOG: LB Bobby Wagner BIN (20.30)

Of Note: "AFK" Status

The semifinals were not without some controversy, and as such, a new line of protocol will be written into the Larkspur Bowl charter.

Hill Valley's Manager Mike Verrino was on a plane this past Sunday and requested the Commissioner look over his team while he was unable to participate in the game. This happens from time to time throughout the season, as various managers have contacted me to oversee their team over the years, and is an understandable component of living a busy lifestyle. However, as I too was preoccupied (at work) I was unable to comply with this request, failing to notice the surprise inactivity of David Njoku until well after the fact.

In the end I removed Njoku from the lineup, leaving it to the discretion of the manager to replace him with available personnel. Ultimately, his replacement Nick Vannett scored 6.5 points, a number that did not impact the final margin of victory, and therefore becomes a footnote in Larkspur Bowl history. Had the semifinal matchup between Hill Valley and HCM City proved to be closer, I expect there would be some controversy this morning!

AS SUCH, moving forward into 2020 and Larkspur Bowl XII:

Teams will be allowed to throw three "AFK" flags per season, by way of announcing publicly on our Facebook group that they will be "Away From Keyboard" for the upcoming matchup and request Commissioner assistance in roster optimization. To declare AFK status, post on the group's wall, tagging the commish and your opponent for the week, to ensure everything is handled on the up and up.

This request can be made at any time and carries through the end of said week, but will only allow for changes from that point forward, with no retroactive moves allowed- so, if you throw an "AFK" flag at 1:30pm EST on a Sunday, it will not apply to games that have already begun.

Declaring "AFK" status will result in any players that are listed as 'inactive' or 'out' prior to kickoff (for injury, coaches' decision, suspension, or otherwise) to be removed from the game. If a player is officially active for the game, they will remain in the lineup even if they fail to take the field for a single snap.

A replacement will only be slotted in if: The "AFK" manager indicates a specific player available on the bench to replace the inactive player, or in lieu of instruction, a player of the same position is available on the bench. If there are multiple available players on the bench and no instructions have been given, the available player with the highest Y! projection will be plugged in at the discretion of the commissioner. If there are no available players at a position left on the bench, the slot will remain vacant, with the "AFK" manager responsible for adding a player. Chronology will apply, and only players with the same or later start times can be plugged in.

The commissioner WILL NOT add a player to a team directly.
The only exception is an accidental drop, which should also be posted publicly on the facebook group, and will only be reversed if the manager immediately realizes their mistake, with no allocation for dropper's remorse.

The limit of three "AFK" flags is to prevent a manager from simply declaring AFK status every week, as the onus for roster management should remain largely on the individual, except for in extraordinary situations. Preferably "AFK" status will be a rare occurrence moving forward. Managers should be prepared to be present to manage their team in at least 13 of 16 weeks. There will be no added accommodation for the playoffs, so please utilize your three "AFK" statuses wisely.

XI: Semifinal Preview

We're down to the final four, with the semi-finals kicking off tonight, and Lamar Jackson's health under the microscope. Along with New York teammate Marcus Peters, Hill Valley running back Le'Veon Bell and HCM City WR Robby Anderson, tonight's action will go a long way to determining who competes in Larkspur Bowl XI.

LARKSPUR BOWL BRACKET:
#1 Hill Valley McFlys vs #4 HCM Lead Farmers
All-Time: 9-2 McFlys advantage; Have never met in playoffs
Last Time: Week 7 - HVM 283.41 over HCM 150.32
QB: HVM Aaron Rodgers has not put up large point totals on a weekly basis, but should be the far more stable pick than whomever gambling Lead Farmers trot out... but, any given Sunday applies
RB: HCM's McCaffrey/Aaron Jones combination is the league's best, and while Dalvin Cook is a stud, there's too much uncertainty around Leveon Bell to feel confident in this matchup
WR: HVM's upside takes a hit with Marvin Jnes hitting IR but Godwin/Beckham/Robinson has a high floor. HCM's Golladay & Diggs match, while Anderson has been hot- veritable push.
TE/FX: HCM's Greg Olsen has a decent floor, while HVM's TE David Njoku is all upside. Meanwhile, Allen Hurns and Breshad Perriman are both dart throws at best, guys filling in for superior players late in the season.
DEF: HCM is led by Joe Schobert and the team has stuck with most of their guys, with only Bud Dupree and Antoine Bethea new adds. Meanwhile, HVM added the top DL in the league Danielle Hunter a few weeks ago, putting him in front of two elite safeties, Vonn Bell and Landon Collins. The rest of the McFly D has been a rotation, mostly to great effect.
K: HCM's Matt Prater has nailed 10 of 14 from beyond 40 scoring high upside, with McFly kicker Austin Seibert just 7 for 10. However, Seibert is 9 for 9 from the 30s, while Prater is a mere 2 for 3, giving the McFly a safe floor.

#2 Pawnee Pride vs #3 New York's Finest
All-Time: 5-5 Split Regular Season Series; Have never met in playoffs
Last Time: Week 3 - NYF 199.38 over PAW 179.50
QB: If NYF's MVP Lamar Jackson cannot go, they loser their greatest advantage, as the team has indicated they may turn to Eli Manning in his stead. Meanwhile, PAW's Drew Brees showed he can still sling with the best of them- he goes Monday night, perhaps with the game on the line.
RB: NYF has a pair of monsters that have been tagged with 'load management' at various times this season. Hasn't mattered lately, with Todd Gurley scoring 20+ in 3 of four, and Derrick Henry scoring 25+ in 5 of 5. Meanwhile, injuries have seen Josh Jacobs on the shelf and Marlon Mack just returning for Pawnee. They may end up starting big play specialist Austin Ekeler and... some other guy.
WR: PAW WR Michael Thomas is a bankable asset- the only one in this game now that teammate Mike Evans is doubtful and Adam Thielen injured and without meaningful play since his week 7 injury. DK Metcalf has seen his usage bounce around week to week, while Golden Tate has seen his looks dwindle recently. Meanwhile New York wideouts Tyler Boyd and Mike Williams are both on the upswing.
TE/FX: Both teams feature high end positions at a position mostly bereft of them; George Kittle has justified his second round pick, while Dante Waller has been a massive profit out of the 20th round. In the flex both Deebo Samuel and Tyler Higbee have emerged as consistent threats in the late season.
DEF: The Pawnee defense keys on big plays, a boom/bust unit that will be essential to the team's final results. Meanwhile, New York has more tackle to their portfolio, with pass rusher Harold Landy and pick artist Marcus Peters notable exceptions.
K: New York's Matt Gay holds the edge, with Pawnee turning to veteran Robbie Gould in a big spot.

5TH PLACE GAME:
#5 South Park Cows vs #6 Ohio Tommy Boys
All-Time: (Ohio's inaugural season)
Last Time: Week 3 - OTB 232.89 over SPC 232.29
QB: Ohio's refusal to move one of their twin ace QBs may have been their downfall, While South Park supplemented Carson Wentz with streamers during lean weeks.
RB: Ohio's Chubb/Mixon get the nod, even with James Conner likely to return to action for the Cows.
WR: TY Hilton looks prepared to return now that it's too late to matter much. He'll join a hobbled (but recently effective) Amari Cooper and Diontae Johnson (coming off his best volume of the year) for the Boys. South Park lacks starpower, but Tyler Lockett, Michael Gallup, and Robert Woods have been solid contributors this year- though Lockett's last month really brought down his numbers.
TE/FX: South Park's jumbo package of Travis Kelce and Austin Hooper has been exquisite. Vance McDonald and Danny Amendola for Ohio is... not exquisite.
DEF: South Park has traditionally optimized their defense and looks to have done so again down the stretch. Ohio has not changed much- seven players will end up playing ten games for them this year. Not a bad thing, as they remain a solid unit.
K: Harrison Butker is tops in the league, soundly outkicking the perfunctory Dan Bailey.

CONSOLATION BRACKET:
#7 Phoenix Uprising vs #11 Savannah Petes
All-Time: 9-2 Uprising Advantage (8 game win streak); PHX 2-0 in playoffs
Last Time: Week 10 - PHX 242.11 over SAV 194.28
QB: Old guard Tom Brady looks to faceoff with former understudy Jimmy G. Brady has looked old lately, while Kyler Murray will likely wait in the wings for Phoenix.
RB: Leonard Fournette has quietly been one of the league's steadiest contributors for SAV, but Alvin Kamara's midseason injury (and lack of end zone visits) helped derail their season. Meanwhile, the carousel in Phoenix ended up featuring Mark Ingram far more than first round picks Saquon Barkley and David Johnson.
WR: Savannah's trio of Sanders, Kupp, and Allen are healthy and productive. Phoenix's trio of Jarvis, DeVante, and Julio are all questionable. (So is AJ Green, LOL.)
TE/FX: Phoenix TE Hunter Henry has been steady down the stretch- Jack Doyle has not been, but he did sign a contract extension that indicates he's part of the plan.
DEF: Both squads boast productive defenses, but Savannah will have to look at the scrap heap for a new safety following DJ Swearinger's release.
K: Both Greg the Leg and Ka'imi have swooned in the second half of the season. Also, Greg and Leg do not rhyme when pronounced.

#8 Jersey Sanitation Crew vs #9 Carmel Rudy-Toos
All-Time: (Both team's inaugural season)
Last Time: Week 3 - JSC 253.21 over CRT 225.64
QB: Journeyman Derek Carr rotates in for Carmel this week, but in Jersey Kirk Cousins has been stellar since the calendar flipped to October.
RB: Since hitting his groove in week eight, Melvin Gordon has been a workhorse for Jersey, though he's not quite Zeke Elliots equal. Devin Singletary and Sony Michel are role players capable of stealing the spotlight.
WR: Carmel acquired Courtland Sutton at the right time- he's far more exciting than role players Fitzgerald and Sanu. On the other side, DJ Moore has blossomed, but Randall Cobb has settled in as a dependable role player, while Keke Coutee has a funny name.
TE/FX: Zach Ertz and Jason Witten are productive tight ends in Carmel. Irv Smith is a role player at best, while injuries and ineffectiveness have rendered Sammy Watkins a non-factor since week ones explosion.
DEF: Jamie Collins was a star in Carmel the first half of the season, but cooled considerably since, while his teammates Bosa and Watt are very good, they are arguably the lesser of each sibling group. Jersey's Marlon Humphery is the rare shutdown cornerback that also tracks on the stat sheet.
K: Both Jason Myers and Zane Gonzalez have had their moments stringng together double digit weeks, but neither are truly dependable kickers.

11TH PLACE GAME:
#10 Binghamton Snipers vs #12 Mar-A-Lago Grabbers
All-Time: 3-0 Snipers Advantage
Last Time: Week 7 - BIN 191.11 over MAL 112.52
QB: Pat Mahomes over Ryan Tannehill, yes! But not by as much as you would think.
RB: Chris Carson is a RB1, while Carlos Hyde and Philip Lindsay are rock solid RB2s. Um, advantage Binghamton, because Latavius is a handcuff and Tevin Coleman is the cold hand in a hot hand committee.
WR: Davante Adams and Juju Smith-Schuster both disappointed this year, with injuries playing a role, leaving Curtis Samuels left to play every week, rather than slotting in at the flex where he belongs. The Grabber contingent features hard to trust breakout Darius Slayton, concussion prone Sterling Shepard, and miraculously healthy and productive John Brown... coming of his worst game of the season.
TE/FX: Jacob Hollister exploded on the scene before retreating back to a decent volume, TD dependent contingency. Dallas Goedert and Jonnu Smith are a pair of backups that have inherited some additional volume. James Washington has been a real good waiver claim in the back nine.
DEF: Standout CB Kenny Moore missed last week and is questionable this week for the Snipers. DeVondre Campbel has scored double digits in four of five since the bye, but is out of practice today.
K: Justin Tucker is better than Chris Boswell.

XI: Week Fourteen Recap

They are who we thought they were.

The final four end being the four teams that won the most games in 2019, a fitting pair of matchups for our penultimate week of action; Hill Valley and Pawnee have been waiting, while New York and HCM City have arrived. We'll take a look at the matchups that were now, and the matchups that are later, as we barrel towards 2019's thrilling conclusion.

Week 14 Matchups

#3 New York's Finest defeat #6 Ohio Tommy Boys
New York's offense was firing in this one, while their secondary of Buddha Baker, Marcus Peters, and Adrian Amos made big plays in a bend but don't break display on the other side of the ball. Joe Mixon had himself a day, but a disappointing performance from Russel Wilson kept the Tommy Boys from really competing in their first ever playoff appearance. Of note: New York QB Lamar Jackson (and likely MVP) was injured and is questionable for the team's semifinal matchup.
OPOG: RB Joe Mixon OTB (30.70)
DPOG: S Adrian Amos NYF (27.65)

#4 HCM Lead Farmers defeat #5 South Park Cows
The Lead Farmers were powered by their irrepressible runningback duo in this one, with Christian McCaffrey and Aaron Jones combining for 57 points, dwarfing the Cows' hobbled ground game. Outstanding defensive efforts from Eric Reid, Luke Kuechly, and Jaylon Smith kept the Cows in spitting distance, but with HCM's offense rolling (every offensive player except TE Daniel Fells scored doubled digits) South Park found itself outgunned and undermanned.
OPOG: QB Jameis Winston HCM (36.24)
DPOG: LB Jaylon Smith SPC (25.30)

#9 Carmel Rudy-Toos defeat #12 Mar-A-Lago Grabbers
Phil Rivers is not dead yet! Abandoned by the Petes after failing to lead them to the playoffs, he takes the reins in Carmel, and in conjunction with a healthy ground game (Zeke Elliot & Devin Singletary bursting through holes) he utilized TE Zach Ertz to great effect. The Grabbers' defense came to play in week 14, led by James Burgess, Joe Haden, and Devondre Campbell. Unfortunately, there was only so much Pat Mahomes could do with his cadre of inept weapons- and breakout rookies Darius Slayton and Terry McLaurin parked on the bench.
OPOG: QB Philip Rivers CRT (27.16)
DPOG: LB James Burgess MAL (25.50)

#11 Savannah Petes defeat #10 Binghamton Snipers
The Petes thoroughly outplayed the Snipers in this bottom of the bottom bracket matchup. Despite a lackluster game from top pick Alvin Kamara, Savannah showed a ton of gumption with Jimmy Garoppolo under center and downfield weapons Emmanuel Sanders, Keenan Allen, and Cooper Kupp flashing. The Linebacking corps swarmed for Savannah each scoring in double digits. On the other side of the ball, Bobby Wagner stood alone against the rush. Running backs Chris Carson and Philip Lindsay finished the game with adequate numbers against a defense just bleeding out the clock.
OPOG: WR Emmanuel Sanders SAV (35.90)
DPOG: LB Bobby Wagner BIN (18.00)

The Cows' Last Stand

New York's Finest are on their way to the semifinals, defeating Ohio 224.83-188.08 to set up a matchup with the Pawnee Pride, who optimized their bye week by lining it up with paternity leave: Congratulations on your beautiful daughter Grace, Pete and Erica!

Meanwhile, the South Park Cows will need at least 52.24 points from Carson Wentz and Miles Sanders to push past the HCM Lead Farmers. The winner will see the #1 seeded, defending champion, Hill Valley McFlys in round two.

If all other results hold up, here's what the penultimate round of 2019 Larkspur Bowl Football will look like. The Grabbers and Rudy-Toos are in a battle for to push into the top four draft slots next year, while Binghamton would need 91.57 points from Dallas Goedert, Ronald Darby, and Jalen Mills to push past Savannah.

XI: Bracket Preview

We're into the playoffs!

The Championship bracket features three former champions including the #1 Hill Valley McFlys, who are two for four in Larkspur Bowls (victors in VIII & X, losers in IV & V), the #3 New York's Finest (Champs in VI, runner-up in LBI) and #5 South Park (Champs in VII). Meanwhile, the #2 seeded Pawnee Pride have lost in the big game twice (VII & X), while HCM City lost in LBIX. The Ohio Tommy Boys end up playoff participants in their inaugural season, and will try to duplicate the LBIV's champion Revis Islanders rookie results, by winning it all after a 7-6 season.

In the loser's bracket, Phoenix finds itself with a bye in week 14 for the eighth time in the past ten years- however, every other time it was in the other bracket. Along with the Jersey Crew they defeated in week 13, they'll wait to play for a top four draft slot in weeks 15 and 16. Meanwhile, we'll see Carmel, Binghamton, Savannah, and Mar-A-Lago try to salvage their lost seasons. Deputy goes into cold storage until next year, while South Philly will have to sweat out the B-Division results over the course of the next month.

XI: Week Thirteen Recap

Well...
That's it.

The regular season is over.

Our six playoff teams are in, with the top five teams in overall points progressing to the tournament:
*1. HILL VALLEY McFLYS (2777.27, 11-2, #1 Seed)
*2. NEW YORK'S FINEST (2748.42, 8-5, #3 Seed)
*3. SOUTH PARK COWS (2721.10, 7-6, #5 Seed)
*4. HCM LEAD FARMERS (2665.41, 8-5, #4 Seed)
*5. PAWNEE PRIDE (2606.82, 9-4, #2 Seed)

As you can see, the wins and losses caused by weekly variance played a role in seeding, but the cream of the league's crop, every team that averaged over 200 points per game, is on to the next round. Just desserts for capable managers.

But that leaves one seed at large, and it goes to the final team with a winning record:
6. PHOENIX UPRISING (2573.42, 6-7)
7. JERSEY SANITATION CREW (2561.37, 6-7)
8. SAVANNAH PETES (2541.75, 5-8)
*9. OHIO TOMMY BOYS (2438.38, 7-6, #6 Seed)
10. MAR-A-LAGO GRABBERS (2430.49, 4-9)
11. CARMEL RUDY-TOOS (2416.07, 6-7)
12. BINGHAMTON SNIPERS (2402.51, 6-7)

The Tommy Boys started the season off with a loss before reeling off six straight victories; Four of which were bonafide by 200+ points, though luck played a role: Their week 3 victory over South Park was by .6 of a point. Two other times the Boys showed poorly, but their opponents, (bottom ranked Deputy and Philly) scored 147 and 136 respectively, each losing their matchups more than Ohio won them. Despite not eclipsing 200 points in any of the last seven games (and going 1-6 during that time) Ohio backs into the playoffs, ending the playoff appearance streaks of Phoenix (9 years) and Binghamton (2 years) in the process.

At the bottom of the pack are the two teams that fail to make the consolation bracket:
13. DEPUTY VAN HALENS (2356.81, 4-9)
14. SOUTH PHILLY RUM HAM (2200.31, 4-9)

This is the Van Halens second straight year missing the playoffs, after taking the #1 seed in LBIX and the #4 seed in LBVIII. The team will have an opportunity to break (or continue!) that streak in 2020, as they evade the chopping point by a healthy 156.81 points. Meanwhile, South Philly is in serious jeopardy- the franchise (known as the Atlanta Rage 2009-2013, and as the Saskatoon Sasquatch 204-2016) is a charter member, but has not managed a playoff appearance or a winning record since 2012. Should the B-Division Champion (Manitoba leads with four weeks left to go) decide to ascend, the Rum Ham will have to drop a division in 2020 and earn their way back to the A-Series.

We'll get into season retrospectives and the playoff matchups in later posts.
For now, we look at the week's final season in all of its glory, and all of its shame.

Week 13 Matchups

WEEK 13 POWER RANKINGS:
  1. NYF 249: Former champs (VI) look like serious contender behind Lamar Jackson

  3. PHX 236: Late season surge is not enough. AJ Green still has not played a snap
  4. BIN 198: 4 point loss to PAW in week 9 keeps them from 3 straight 7 win playoff appearances
  5. HVM 192: The McFlys are the favorite, as they look to win trophy in 3 out of 4 years
  6. DVH 185: Disaster year not as bad as it looked, pair of solid (if losing) efforts to close out
  7. SAV 183: Went 1-2 in games decided by single digits, lost another by 12. Big what if in '19?
  8. JSC 180: Came up against an old vet playing spoiler, ending their inaugural year on sour note
  9. HCM 179: A mostly ceremonial win, but team has won 8, 7, and now 8 in past three years
