2013 New York's Finest

The Finest had a bizarre year, where they were fifth in points (their best ranking ever) but just could not get enough wins to befit their production. Injuries took their toll, but the team made dramatic changes to finish strong, and then went on a run to win the consolation bracket, securing the first overall pick this year. Tom Grimes has vowed that he will make Peyton Manning the face of the franchise in 2014, but we're still two months away from draft day. Wacky hijinks will ensue.

2013 FINAL ROSTER

Team Owner: Tom Grimes

Hometown: New York Fuckin' City

2013 Record: 5-8

2014 Draft Position: 1st

Week 12: 6. New York  4-8  1840.23
It's been a tough season for the Finest, but they seem to be rounding into form now; Too little, too late perhaps, but enough to challenge for a high draft pick in 2014. Poor play by the signal caller has doomed a Big Apple team that has gotten above average production everywhere else on the field- it will be interesting to see if this influences their approach, and they select a field general early next year.

Week 9: 6. New York 2-7 1432.09
The Finest are that team that just seems fated to despair, the only squad to have a record far worse than their scoring should indicate. Still putting up competitive numbers, they just cannot get an ounce of luck. They will finish under .500, and likely need a four game winning streak and a miracle to squeak into the playoffs. More likely, they're playing for next year, and with a solid core, its not inconceivable that they could get hot and dominate the consolation bowl, on a mission to clinch the number one pick in 2014.

Week 6: 6. New York 2-4 987.85
The Finest have faced the league's toughest onslaught this year, which has pinned them down to a 2-4 record despite a very competitive showing. After losing Julio Jones for the year, the team dealt its other stud WR, AJ Green, and laid its eggs in RG3's basket. If the young QB can recapture last year's highlight reel magic, New York has an opportunity to right the ship quickly and rumble back to the playoffs.

Week 3: 5 New York 1-2 511.17
The Finest eked out their first win in three valiant attempts last night. Last year they were lucky rather than good- this year they've been good but unlucky. They still need to solidify their RB2 slot, but the pieces are there: Leveon Bell looks ready to wear his war wounds like a crown, suiting up after three inactive weeks, Pierre Thomas has put up reasonable numbers, and could start in a pinch, Bernard Pierce will continue to have a role as Ray Rice's health remains questionable. If they can deal competently with byes and avoid catastrophic injuries, this looks like a playoff roster to me.

2013 Season Preview

The Finest haven't actually measured the caliber of the league, though they do have two unlikely runs to their credit. Despite finishing in the bottom half of the league in points every year, New York boasted the best record in the league in 2012, and was runner-up in the 2009 Larkspur Bowl. We'll chalk it up to stellar coaching?
