Today an interesting swap between the two LBVIII semifinal losers went down, a two for two deal. These teams have seen different fortunes since getting to the league's penultimate round last year, but ultimately have the same goal: Just win, baby.
MANITOBA ACQUIRES: RB EDDIE LACY, TE GREG OLSEN
PAWNEE ACQUIRES: RB THEO RIDDICK, QB DEREK CARR
The Moosecrew are mostly playing for pride and pick location at this point, as it would take a true Cinderella run for them to return to the playoffs from 2-6. Eddie Lacy was a star a few years ago, and it sounds like he's going to get the opportunity for tote volume in upcoming weeks. He will have to do better than last week's "six carries for zero yards" line though. TE Greg Olsen is still a month away from a possible return, but could be a factor in Manitoba's postseason should they make one bracket or the other. When healthy he is the rare tight end that offers consistent weekly floor with elite upside.
Pawnee gets some spare parts: Derek Carr was deposed by Carson Wentz in Manitoba and won't inherit Drew Brees' throne with the Pride either. His acquisition does potentially foreshadow another move, with quarterback injuries and bye weeks taking their toll, and his top half of the league talent making him a credible LB gunslinger. Theo Riddick is the opposite sort of player from the lumbering would-be workhorse Lacy: A diminutive slasher in the Darren Sproles mold, his value is contingent upon big plays and two minute drill dumpoffs. He's likely just an insurance policy as the Pride get through back to back bye weeks, with Gordon then Hunt resting.
