2015 Draft Recap

Last night the seventh annual Larkspur Bowl Draft kicked off with Hill Valley selecting RB Jamaal Charles.

It then continued with a briskly paced, two hour and fifteen minute selection process, where teams laid the foundation for their upcoming campaign. Yahoo! graded the draft and give full team by team analysis below:

Draft Grades

We'll take a quick look at the strengths and weaknesses of each roster, in order:

PHX: A GRADE
Strength: TE & Defense
Weakness: RB

The Uprising drafted the two biggest positional advantages in Watt and the Gronk. Without any elite RBs, they'll be riding their patented Carousel of Doom early in 2015.

LTP: A GRADE
Strength: Offense
Weakness: Secondary

Toronto comes in with a great draft, and their offense projects above average at every spot. Their defensive backs came down with 16 picks last year- will variance lead to regression?

SAS: B GRADE
Strength: QB & LB
Weakness: WR & TE

Matt Ryan remains the face of this franchise, while Lavonte David gives them an equally cerebral defense. After Antonio Brown, there are a lot of questions about the teams receivers.

SPC: B GRADE
Strength: Weapons & Defense
Weakness: QB & TE

The Cows have a deep arsenal of high upside weapons, but will rely on two injury prone QBs (Palmer & Bradford) to get them the ball. This is a stellar all around defense.

MMC: B GRADE
Strength: RB
Weakness: WR & Front Seven

The MooseCrew are relying on a lot of grizzled veterans on offense, where only one starter (Jimmy Graham) is on the right side of 30. The defense is unsettled with players recovering from injury.

ISL: B GRADE
Strength: RB
Weakness: TE

The Islanders have three battering rams at RB in Beast Mode, Ivory, and Blount. At TE Coby Fleener is inconsistent, and Jordan Reed is injury prone.

HCM: B GRADE
Strength: RB
Weakness: WR

Three marquee bell cows have the Lead Farmers in the driver's seat, but split wide there's Jordy Nelson, and then a bunch of limited skill set role players.

NYF: B GRADE
Strength: QB
Weakness: Offensive Weapons

The defending champions have the most reliably awesome quarterback in the game, but the rest of the offense is decidedly mediocre. CJ Mosley should lead a sharp defense.

HVM: C+ GRADE
Strength: WR
Weakness: QB

With five potential playmakers at WR, the McFlys should not have trouble making big plays... if Cam Newton can progress. Two ace starting RBs should help.

LHT: C GRADE
Strength: Weapons
Weakness: Defense

There's a ton to like about Liberal's receiving corps, and the RBs are loaded with top flight potential. The defense doesn't project greatness, but LHT is a master of sleeper IDPs.

SAV: C- GRADE
Strength: QB
Weakness: RB

Andrew Luck gives this offense a chance to score a lot of points, but there's no proven bell cow on the roster, and the WR depth is a gamble. Kuechly and Levy is a great LB tandem.

DVH: C- GRADE
Strength: WR
Weakness: RB

They fixed their needs at LB post draft, but there's no surplus of RBs, and all of theirs have something to prove. The tradition of QB controversy continues in Deputy.

PAW: D+ GRADE
Strength: Ceiling
Weakness: Floor

The Pride grade out below average at nearly every position; Nearly their entire roster is boom or bust. If their instincts are right, they could stun the projections though.

OAK: D GRADE
Strength: TE
Weakness: Primary Weapons

Martellus Bennett is a very good all around TE that should rarely leave the field and see a ton of targets. Le'Veon Bell should be superb after his suspension. Peyton is Peyton, Clay is Clay. Everyone else is just another guy.

The season kicks off September 10th, twenty four days from today. There will be plenty of transactions in the meantime, and it is likely we'll see some players join teams in the next three weeks that develop into difference makers. The arms race has begun!
