LBX: Draft Results

The day has finally come and gone- and rosters have arrived. And drafts grades! The starting point of every season.

But before we triumph or despair over draft grades, lets set the record straight: These grades are broken. IDP projections are all over the place- and in many cases nonexistent. Having even one projected 'zero' in your lineup is enough to dilute your grade; some teams have upwards of four or five. So the grades should be taken with a grain of salt.

At this point (YEAR X) all fourteen teams in the league have enough experience to know what makes a competitive roster and how to grind their players to a success. To win a championship it takes the perfect mix of (healthy) elite players, high ceiling development, high floor stability, optimal weekly streaming, choice claims, fortunate adds and lucky breaks. A draft day roster is a starting point, and dozens of difference makers are lurking on the wire even now. Injuries, role changes, and game flow will dictate results- not hedged bet projection analysis.

Week One play begins a week from tomorrow, (Thursday September 6th) and continue through Monday September 10th. At that point we'll get some points, and wins, and losses on the board and see this story begin to unfold: Sixteen chapters from now, thirteen teams will be disappointment- While one will hold the Larkspur Bowl's Silver Chalice aloft.

This is where your team comes from; From here on out, your decisions will determine where it goes.

Brew-tang Killa Beez

There's a pre-draft buzz in the air!

The Oakwood Drivers (21-44 .323%) have been a part of the Larkspur Football league since 2013, donning red & white jerseys and green & gold jerseys but never tasting the playoffs. And they never will. The team has announced on the eve of the 2018 season that Oakwood's era of futility has ended, and they'll be taking their talents to Brewtang, parts unknown. The Killa Beez will be the franchise's new moniker, and their reign starts tomorrow with the 5th pick in the Larkspur Bowl X draft.

In other news, MOTION A (Draft Pick Selection) has passed, pending flip flop, with eight votes. MOTION C ($20 buy-in) is deadlocked at 6-6, with two abstaining from gambling. MOTIONS B & D (Keeper Auction and Expansion) have both been defeated on the senate floor, making the late Senator John McCain proud.

The Blizzard of the World: LBXI

We're a week away from drafting our Larkspur Bowl X teams: Tuesday August 28th, 7:00pm EST. HERE IT COMES! HOLD ON TO YOUR BUTTS.

Before bringing our focus to the season at hand, lets bring up four motions up for vote in advance of next season. If any of the following motions pass by popular vote (minimum of ten votes cast) they will go into effect one year from now, for the 2019 Larkspur Bowl XI season.

MOTION A: DRAFT PICK SELECTION
Teams can select their draft position based on their previous year's finish. The order of selection would remain the same: 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 5, 6, 3, 4, 2, 1. Rather than being locked into the highest spot available to them, teams could choose their draft slot. The selection process would be one month BEFORE the next season's draft, initiated by the commissioner. Anyone that failed to communicate their selection in a timely manner would default to the highest slot available to them.
(Proposed by Savannah Petes & Philadelphia Rum Ham)

Do you want to select your draft pick position for Larkspur Bowl XI?

  • YES: Give teams the ability to select their draft position
  • NO: Hard line teams into the best draft position available to them

MOTION B: KEEPERS & AUCTION DRAFT
The 2019 Draft would, for one year only, be an auction draft, where by every team has an equal chance to select every player, with teams bidding on their players from an equal currency reserve. Teams would then designate either 3, 5, or 7 keepers (the number of keepers would be determined by a subsequent vote) in advance of the following year's drafts. The 2020 draft would return to a serpentine redraft system, with a team's earliest picks being used for their allotment of keepers. Draft picks would become tradeable in 2020, and keepers would continue henceforth. The number of keepers could be adjusted year to year via vote or a parity based commissioner decision.
(Proposed by HCM City & Phoenix Uprising)

Do you want to institute keepers via an Auction draft for Larkspur Bowl XI?

  • YES: Lets liven the league up with keepers
  • NO: If it ain't broke don't fix it, full redraft has worked for a decade

MOTION C: CASH REWARD
For the 2019 season a buy-in fee would be instituted, to incentivize the league and reward the winner with cash. The prize structure and total buy-in would be voted on in a subsequent vote, but in year one would not exceed a $20 buy-in per team. Future years could see the buy-in increased or decreased in the future, if favored by a majority of league members, as determined by vote.
(Proposed by Hill Valley McFlys like a hundred times)

Do you want to add a buy-in (max $20) for Larkspur Bowl XI?
  • YES: Lets put a little wager down and sweeten the pot
  • NO: Play for the love of the game

MOTION D: EXPANSION
Should the league consider expanding to sixteen teams, the league would divide into two eight team divisions. The regular season would expand to fourteen weeks, with every team playing the seven teams in their division twice in each season. Four teams would make the playoffs, with each division winner clinching a berth, and the two teams with the next best record (regardless of division) making the playoffs. Head to head record would be first tie-breaker, followed by total points. In each subsequent year, the top eight teams from the previous year would make up one division, while the bottom eight teams would make up the other division.

Do you want to consider expansion (to 16 teams) for Larkspur Bowl XI?
  • YES: The more the merrier!
  • NO: I like playing every team every year and having six playoff teams

Polls will be affixed to the facebook group as soon as I get an opportunity to make them. Discussion is welcome, voting will go all week, and changing your mind is allowed. Votes will be final upon the start of the LBX draft.

2018 Mock Draft 1.0

Football is back and we're just twenty-five days away from the Larkspur Bowl IX draft:
TUE AUG 28th 7:00pm EST.

The preseason began in earnest last night and to commemorate the event we've done a five round mock draft. This was a straight transposition of Y! projected rankings, with the only controls being a limit to three running backs or receivers and one quarterback or tight end through the first five serpentine rounds- that is to say, the picks went down column one, up column two, down column three, up column four, and down column five. No defensive players or kickers were included in this exercise.

Would you be pleased with your team coming away with this hypothetical haul?
