HCM City and Savannah surge to the #1 and #3 spots around Deputy at the top of the league standings; The Lead Farmers are second in overall points, while the Petes have not lost in a month. In the 3-2 second tier is of two: the Pawnee Pride (most points for, second most points against) have overcome a tough schedule to keep a hold on a playoff position, while the Oakwood Drivers rebound from back to back losses to keep the six slot and above .500%. This is the fastest the Drivers have ever reached three wins, and they are halfway to setting their franchise's best ever single season mark.
Everyone else it playing catchup: Five teams at 2-3 headed up by week five's top scorer Phoenix and tentative victor Toronto. Behind them, three 1-4 teams; Binghamton finally breaks into the win column after an unforgiving first month in the league, while Philadelphia drops a heart breaker and Manitoba continues to flounder. With bye weeks and injuries factoring, this is going to be the most essential stretch for the majority of teams- shrewd moves are picking the wire clean, while trades are likely to create one issue to address another.
NOTE: The LTP vs RUM game was decided by less than a point and is subject to stat corrections. The OAK vs HVM game could also be impacted by stat corrections through Thursday (10/12) am.
SCOREBOARD:
Week 5 Matchups
POWER OUTPUT:
- PHX 249: Deshaun Watson led a team hitting on all cyclinders, and while the RB and Flex questions linger into month two, rumors of the Uprising's demise appear to be presumptuous.
- BIN 238: Patient with their players, the Snipers looked great despite weathering several byes. The team should be good going forward, but are they good enough to overcome a 1-4 start?
- HCM 215: Tops in the league, the Lead Farmers' pairing of dependable RBs and TE and lighting strike WRs looks good. Melvin Ingram is a dominant force on D.
- PAW 204: A tough luck loss doesn't dampen the Pride's showcase as the league's most complete team to date. Jordy Nelson and Stefon Diggs both suffering minor injuries is a concern, but not a glaring one.
- LTP 183: Pending the officials upholding the result, Toronto wins without a quarterback. Roster optimization hasn't been ideal, but the team has hung in there and played tough.
- RUM 183: A reversal would breathe life into this Rum Ham squad, who would see multiple starters return from bye in week six. Otherwise, this teams faces a steep uphill climb.
- OAK 179: Holding onto this win will characterize what is different about this team- they've got some luck. Vontaze Burfict and Jason McCourty were midway monsters in this one.
- MMC 179: They lose the game despite a solid effort, and they lose JJ Watt for the season. The team needs top picks Amari Cooper and Demarco Murray to rebound fast and hard if they're competing for anything this year.
- HVM 175: The defending champs got a bunch of okay performances in week five, but nobody taking the reins- Only three players could exceed projection by more than 1.5; Exception: Zach Ertz is looking elite at TE.
- DVH 175: Michael Crabtree returns, but Carlos Hyde vanishes. The WR depth is shaky and flaky, with few players offering dependable results on a weekly basis; Still, at 4-1 they have the luxury of holding steady.
- SPC 174: Steadfastly mediocre, the Cows have scored between 160 and 182 in all five games this year. Shaking off their injury bug, they'll have to take high risk high reward chances to be more than an also ran.
- SAV 151: A win is a win, and this marks four in a row for the Petes. With their top two WRs on bye, they should be glad with the result and confident that the offense will bounce back.
- MAL 142: Antonio Brown and the defense did what they could to get over .500% but the rest of the team's offense sputtered due to byes; Kirk Cousins, Demaryius Thomas, and CJ Anderson return in week 6.
- NYF 129: The Finest have a choice to make- they dance with who they came in with and try to pick up some WR depth off the bargain bin, or they look to scramble a 4-1 team midstream.
