Week 8 Matchups
Lightning Round:
Phoenix (7-1) beats Oakwood (3-5) and breaks Leveon Bell.
South Park (4-4) defeats HCM City (2-6) despite their best efforts.
(5-3) Pawnee looks just fine with Jay Cutler, hangs on against Manitoba (3-5).
New York (8-0) breaks their (2-6) Savannah son's heart by way of former Pete, Kuechly.
Hill Valley (4-4) keeps lurking dangerously, despite tough luck. Toronto (4-4) falls even.
The Islanders (5-3) trounce the unprepared Van Halens (3-5), who have a claim to make.
Liberal (3-5) looked pretty good after their blockbuster, crushing Saskatoon (3-5).
OPotW: QB Drew Brees, Liberal HT (54.14pts)
Much ado was made about HT trading away their second round pick, AJ Green. Some felt they had a fledgling franchise quarterback waiting in the wings, (as Blake Bortles sat on bye) and that acquiring fading franchise quarterback Drew Brees was a panic move. Brees responded with the best performance of any Quarterback this season, tossing seven touchdowns in his 511 yard Liberal debut. While James Starks and Danny Amendola did little this week, Brees was enough to push the HT win streak to three, just one game back of playoff positioning.
DPotW: LB Luke Kuechly, NY Finest (28.95)
Really a terrible twist of fate for Savannah here. They drafted the Kook to be their defensive captain, only to see him struggle with concussion symptoms for a month. As the injuries piled up, Savannah felt they needed to churn in some healthy bodies, and move Luke to the defending champions- where he immediately regaining his all-world form. To add insult to injury, Savannah looked poised to knock off the undefeated Finest, until Kuechly took over late, making 14 total tackles (one for a loss) defending three passes and picking off the clincher.
PUotW: WR Marques Colston, Revis Islanders (25.9pts)
Colston appeared to be on his last legs before coming to the Island- barely a factor, yet to find pay dirt. That changed in a hurry: Ole reliable caught eight passes for 114 yards, including five first downs and a 53 yard touchdown. If this was the grand finale it was a good one. If there's more left in the tank, The Islanders are sure to benefit in a big way.
