Quarterfinals Recap

The first round of the playoffs is in the books! Curiously, both losing teams offered up the best player in their matchup, but could not ride that headway to victory. There is definitely a luck aspect to any given matchup on any given Sunday, but the playoffs are also the culmination of three and a half months of chess match roster maintenance; We'll see which long term moves pay off in December.

The Larkspur Bowl:

#3 New York's Finest (152.75)
defeated
#6 Indiana Turbanators (133.51)
RECAP

New York (9-4) were able to grind out a playoff win over Indiana (7-6) on the legs of ole reliable RBs Marshawn Lynch and Steven Jackson. The One-Two punch was able to nullify an excellent game from Calvin Johnson, who delivered the goods for the Turbanators as the game MVP, but just wasn't enough to get Indiana to the second round. New York will face the #2 seed South Park Cows (10-3) hoping to return to the LARKSPUR BOWL for the first time since 2009.

Player of the Game: WR Calvin Johnson, Indiana Turbanators - 27.80pts

ROUND TWO: #3 New York's Finest vs #2 South Park Cows

#5 Margaritaville Parrots (210.37)
defeated
#4 Toronto Les Tres Petites (187.50)
RECAP

LTP got out to a quick start on Thursday, as game (and potential league) MVP DeMarco Murray hit paydirt early, but Toronto could not outlast M-Ville, who got a great defensive performance, and key plays from Jay Cutler, Odell Beckham, and TY Hilton. The stunning turnaround highlighted Toronto's depth issues: Five players scored under five points for the favored Canadian team. The Parrots will be without star WR Brandon Marshall when they face #1 seed Phoenix (10-3) in the next round; He suffered internal injuries in this one, and his season is over.

Player of the Game: RB DeMarco Murray, Toronto LTP - 37.50pts

ROUND TWO: #5 Margaritaville Parrots vs #1 Phoenix Uprising

Indiana and Toronto both made the second round of the playoffs in 2013, but are first round losers in 2014. They will face off to determine fifth place which is awarded the 9th pick in next year's draft. The loser of the matchup with pick tenth next year.

FIFTH PLACE GAME: #6 Indiana Turbanators vs #4 Toronto LTP

The Consolation Bracket:

#9 Manitoba Moosecrew (225.22)
defeated
#12 Oakwood Driver (131.84)
RECAP

Manitoba (6-7) has their impressive season continue, with a huge point total dropping the valiant Drivers (5-8) in the consolation bowl. They'll face last year's Consolation Bowl runner-up, the (6-7) Massacre. The victor will then play for the top pick in the draft.
ROUND TWO: #9 Manitoba Moosecrew vs #8 Oniontown Massacre

#10 Hill Valley McFlys (196.58)
defeated
#11 California Swag (165.68)
RECAP

Hill Valley (6-7) was fast and furious in the end, but came up short. Their roster is cresting at the right time, but a point short of the right bracket, due to the accursed stat correction indignity they suffered in week ten. They drop the Swag (5-8) something they couldn't do in the 2012 Larkspur Bowl Championship. They head to Pawnee (6-7) for a consolation bracketed grudge match.
ROUND TWO: #10 Hill Valley McFlys vs #7 Pawnee Pride

The Swag were in the thick of things for the first two months of the season, but five straight losses dropped them out of contention, and now the cold streak has run to six. They'll look to end on a high note against the Drivers, who did well to make the Consolation Bracket, but will be unable to finish as well as they did in 2013, when they came in tenth. The winner of this game will pick fifth in 2015, the loser will pick sixth.
ELEVENTH PLACE GAME: #11 California Swag vs #12 Oakwood Driver
