LBXIV: WEEK THREE

Now we're cooking! Three weeks and only three undefeated teams remaining: Hill Valley, Ohio, and New Jersey top the standings followed by three 2-1 teams: South Park, Manitoba, and Phoenix. Of the top six, all but the Tommy Boys have won the Larkspur Bowl's Silver Chalice at least once; Of the other eight teams (six of whom sit at 1-2) only one team has a championship to their name, the 0-3 Pawnee Pride.

Week 3 Matchups

Only three teams broke the 200 point mark in week three, which makes it one of the lowest scoring weeks on record. A lot of that owes to breakouts from bench players and from players currently on the wire- but destined to be claimed or added in the near future.

The Trade Market remains tepid, but as teams buy or sell early returns and injuries pile up, expect to see transactions flying. Making an offer as a conversation starter is always an option- a lowball might kill discourse, but a genuine offer, even declined, can lead to fruition for both sides.

TEAM OF THE WEEK (WK 3)

  • QB LAMAR JACKSON (CRT) - 37.52 POINTS
  • RB DERRICK HENRY (MAL) - 25.90 POINTS
  • WR DEVONTA SMITH (OTB) - 35.30 POINTS
  • TE MARK ANDREWS (SPC) - 26.70 POINTS
  • DL MAXX CROSBY (SAV) - 24.50 POINTS
  • LB ROQUAN SMITH (HVM) - 29.90 POINTS
  • CB JALEN RAMSEY (DVH) - 20.00 POINTS
  • SS JEVON HOLLAND (MAL) - 27.50 POINTS
  • PK YOUNGHOE KOO (BIN) - 12.00 POINTS

WEEK TWO: HCM DEFEATS DVH

We have our first overturned result of the 2022 season, with HCM City evening their record at 1-1 and vaulting up to seventh at the expense of the Deputy Van Halens, who fall to twelfth place at 0-2.

The review tweaked the scoring for Deputy Defensive players Myles Jack and Danielle Hunter, with Jack actually gaining four points before Hunter lost 7.5 on a misattributed Sack/TFL/Tackle. A crushing blow for the Van Halens, who nabbed the #2 seed last season with a 9-4 record. The Lead Farmers will look to build momentum with the win as they pursue their third berth into the Larkspur Bowl, and their first win following losses in LBXII and LBIX.

TRADE 1: Eazy Coco Exchange

For the third year in a row, Carmel makes the first trade of the season, and for the second year in a row, their partner is Phoenix, as the teams exchange flex depth.

CARMEL AQUIRES: WR COREY DAVIS

PHOENIX ACQUIRES: TE EVAN ENGRAM

The Uprising started Cole Kmet in their first two games and his stat line came up snake eyes, a pair of zeroes. Putting a plea up on the trading block, Carmel offered Engram, who has put up volume results over the same time frame, catching 11 balls on 12 targets for 74 yards. They're not eye popping numbers, but he appears to offer the healthy safety net that Kmet's splatter could not.

In return Carmel gets Corey Davis, who was WR31 in 2020 and has shown a propensity for big plays in each of his first two turns in 2022, scoring 12.2 and 17.9 while confined to the Phoenix bench. The two players were drafted as neighbors: Davis going 275th overall and Engram 287th overall, so, we're looking at a pair of high pedigree veterans with the potential for a breakout season- or at least a contributing role at a position of need.

LBXIV: WEEK TWO

We have moved from two groups to three: Five teams undefeated at 2-0, five teams wallowing at 0-2, and four teams stuck in the middle at 1-1. Week three should start to provide some separation between contenders and pretenders.

Week 2 Matchups

The top three teams in points are also the top three in the standings, with Hill Valley, South Park, and Ohio the cream of the crop thus far; the McFlys and Cows have both shown stalwart defenses and quality offenses, while the Tommy Boys built off a ho-hum week one to score a monster week two- and it could have been even bigger! Had the Tommy Boys played Tua over Burrow and Gesicki over Tyler Boyd, they would have set the all time single game points record at 308.91; As is, they instead are left with a bit of QB controversy.

LBXII Champion New Jersey stayed unbeaten with some late game heroics provided by Darius Slay; LBVIII Champion Manitoba does the same, scoring capably and benefitting from a woeful performance by Savannah. LBXI Champion Pawnee cannot buy a win, scoring the fourth most points in week two but coming against the third most; The Pride are now 2-13 in their last fifteen games following their hard fought loss to South Park.

The Deputy Van Halens evened their record in week two, but will have to wait until Thursday to see if it stands, as their 2.62 margin of victory over HCM City is well within the realm of stat corrections. The Lead Farmers have had some hard luck so far, winless despite going over 200 points in both games and amassing the sixth most points to date.

As for everyone else, teams are still looking to establish their identities: Binghamton has looked strong out of the gate but just didn't have the firepower to hang with Hill Valley. They'll look to bounce back in week three against the Van Halens.

Now that we have seen some game action, injuries and ineffectiveness may spur on some trades- is it a time for patience or proactivity? That's for each GM to decide. With the NFL's new schedule, bye weeks do not start until week six, so there's still a month before the arbitrary absences begin to challenge team depth.

TEAM OF THE WEEK (WK 2)

  • QB Lamar Jackson (CRT) - 48.22 points
  • RB Aaron Jones (OTB) - 34.00 points
  • WR Tyreek Hill (HVM) - 45.80 points
  • TE Mark Andrews (SPC) - 24.40 points
  • DL Nick Bosa (PAW) - 18.00 points
  • LB Matt Milano (OTB) - 24.50 points
  • CB Darius Slay (JSC) - 29.45 points
  • SS Marcus Williams (OTB) - 30.00 points
  • PK Evan McPherson (CRT) - 13.00 points

LBXIV: WEEK ONE

Half of the league is thrilled right now, while the other is despairing, the traditional kneejerks of a season opener, so begins Fourteen in Year of the Bowl.

Week 1 Matchups

Of the six active teams that have hoisted the Larkspur Bowl's Silver Chalice, five (Hill Valley, New Jersey, Phoenix, Manitoba, and South Park) got off on the right foot, leaving the Pawnee Pride, already faded glory coming off a 2-11 season, as the only former champion to fail their first task. Perhaps they'll fare better in week two for GM Pete Allegretta's birthday.

Binghamton's win over a capable Savannah squad is definitive, but Ohio's slim margin (3.72) of victory over Deputy will have to withstand stat corrections before it becomes final.

HCM City takes the hard luck loss despite going over 200 points, leading the losers for the week. They'll all have chances to even their record next week, although with a pair of matchups between defeated teams on tap (CRT vs PRH and DVH vs HCM) we are bound to see at least two teams fall into an 0-2 hole.

TEAM OF THE WEEK (WK 1)

  • QB Patrick Mahomes (NJC) - 38.10 points
  • RB Saquon Barkley (PHX) - 36.80 points
  • WR Justin Jefferson (NJC) - 41.00 points
  • TE Travis Kelce (MMC) - 25.20 points
  • DL Myles Garrett (HVM) - 27.00 points
  • LB Trent Jordan Watt (SPC) - 33.00 points
  • CB L'Jarius Sneed (BIN) - 21.00 points
  • SS Minkah Fitzpatrick (SPC) - 39.55 points
  • PK Ryan Succop (NJC) - 14.00 points
