Liberal and Phoenix linked up for a deal this morning as each team is dealing with variant context: Head Trauma is 0-3 and in need of immediate catalysts before their season slips away. Phoenix at 3-0 has the luxury of taking some lumps with an eye on the long run.
PHOENIX ACQUIRES:
RB LAMAR MILLER
WR VICTOR CRUZ
LIBERAL ACQUIRES:
WR DONTE MONCRIEF
RB DAVID JOHNSON
RB Lamar Miller is the highest pedigree player in the deal, the 32nd overall pick in the 2015 draft. He's struggled with game flow and a bum wheel through three games, and with Arian Foster on the cusp of readiness and Eddie Lacy the bell cow, HT was able to deem him replaceable. WR Victor Cruz was all set to make his return to the salsa field this week, until he stepped onto the practice field. His troublesome calf is still not ready, so he remains a week to week proposition- and a year removed from game action, who knows what he has left? The Uprising are hoping he can slot in at the flex for the backend of the season.
In Liberal, the big get is the return of Donte Moncrief. Their final draft pick, he did not break camp with the team; Phoenix claimed him and saw the freakishly talented WR prosper in the early going. He will slot in as the #2 WR opposite elite talent AJ Green, with Marques Colston providing a mismatch at the slot. David Johnson is more of a lottery ticket than anything else: Huge plays in the first two weeks have showcased the rookie as a home run threat, but he has the profile of a lead back. Behind Lacy and Foster HT still has dynamic CJ Spiller, so they should not be forced to press Johnson into duty anytime soon.
