The Return to Revis Island

The Revis Islanders won the 2012 Larkspur Bowl before adopting the California Swag moniker. After two so-so seasons as the Swag, Jay Kalmer is returning to his roots and reinvigorating Islander nation. They'll have the fifth overall pick in the upcoming draft, which is just 19 days away; It will be interesting to see if they manage to select their eponymous cornerback, and when.

Manager Bios & Relations

In an effort for transparency, I've pasted all of the team bios and compiled a list of each manager's relationships- how members know each other, outside of the league. Will it help trading? I don't know! Maybe?
I'm not sure how!
BUT IT MIGHT!

Also, if you scroll really fast, all of the colors may trigger a seizure.

Team Owner: Tom Grimes
Hometown: New York Fuckin' City

Playoff Record: (3 appearances) 5-2
Championships: One (2014)

In 2009 New York lost the inaugural Larkspur Bowl to the Horde, and then spent the next half decade trying to get back. After scoring the top pick by way of the 2013 Consolation Bowl, The Finest finally brought home the trophy in 2014; They have never been a power house unit, but they have proven their meddle with clutch performances when they count. The savvy veteran looks to defend the title in 2015.

Playoff Record: (7 appearances) 13-3
Championships: Four (2008*, 2010, 2011, 2013)The three time champion has been in the top two in overall points every season for the past half decade- but has now come up short in the playoffs two of the past three years. The bar is set high for the Uprising; Expectations are a championship or bust. The League's only dynasty will look to make it three straight years as points leader in 2015, and hope that is enough to secure a fourth Larkspur Bowl trophy, and a fifth League Championship in nine years.

After two years splitting duties in Toronto, "Co-Manager Mike" chose to go it alone in 2014- and set a record for expansion team victories in year one, pulling double digits right off the first whistle. After securing the #2 seed and a bye, the Cows went down to the Finest 'team of destiny' in the second round, before rallying to take the bronze. An immediate contender looking to take it to the next level in 2015- winning it all.

The Petes have been a deceptively close to contention in their six years in the LFL; While their record tallies at just under .500, they have shown time and time again that they are willing to take the big risk for the big reward. It backfired in 2012, but it nearly bore fruit in 2014, when they made it as far as the semi-finals. Steven will look to be more consistent in 2015, but never underestimate his ability to make a big splash in the trade market.

Team Owners: Stu Ferguson
Hometown: Toronto, Ontario
Overall Record: (3 years) 20-19 .513%
Playoff Record: (2 appearance) 1-2
After a middling rookie season in 2012, 'Les Tres Petites' have produced back to back playoff seasons, ranking third overall in points both years. Stu Ferguson didn't miss a beat when "Co-Manager Mike" left him to take the reins- a steady hand and a resistance to impulse moves kept Toronto at the head of the pack in 2014. That hardened Canadian resolve should prove enduring in 2015.

The chrome domed nomadic tribe that conquered Indiana with their victory over Pawnee in 2014 has taken up a new host city again, Ajay's third in four years. Deputy will be home to a team that has never finished with a losing record- and The Van Halens should have a good chance to build on that premise in 2015.

After five straight playoff appearances in the first five years of the LFL, the McFlys tasted adversity for the first time in 2014, as they missed the big dance; The incessant contender then went and won the consolation bowl, securing the first overall pick to plot their conquest. Redemption should be in the cards- six seasons, four times as a top three scorer. 2015 cannot come fast enough for Hill Valley.

The MooseCrew were born of a disastrous run under Raynor Lundy in Seattle to start the season. After an 0-2 start, Marty Sheehy took the reins and never looked back, turning a team of misfit toys into a 6-5 group of renegades. Now armed with a draft card of his own, we should see what the MooseCrew are truly capable of in 2015.

The league's loveable losers, the Pride have always seemed just a half step slow at crunch time, leaving them on the outside looking in for four of the past five years. You get the sense that Pete's perseverance is palpable though- the Pride could be the team that suddenly puts it all together and prances into the promised land. After losing the deed to their stadium to Deputy, they'll be playing in Ohio this season.

The Meat, (aka the Massacre, aka the Executioners) lost the 2011 semifinal by the slimmest of margins, on an overturned call. Had they won, and everything else remained the same, they would have ousted the Horde, and there would be a significant piece of hardware on their mantle. Instead, they continue to live under the specter of what might have been. A couple of uninspired years moved the team to O-Town, where they scored well (4th overall in total points) but couldn't put enough checks in the left column to make a playoff run. Now they move to Mahopac armed with the fourth overall pick, where they might have trouble bringing back Jamaal Charles for a third tour- we'll see on 8/16.

No team has come into the league quite like the Swag, who won the Larkspur Bowl in their first year, the 2012 champions and the overall points leader to boot. Since then, it's been a couple of lackluster showings- a one and done playoff run in 2013, and a late season fade in 2014. California has shown they can get it done: Now they have to do it again in 2015.

Oakwood has been mostly unfortunate through two years in the league, but made no excuses, battling their way to relevancy and a consolation bid both times. In their third year, anything short of seven wins will be a disappointment, and the Drivers know it. Drafting mid-round, expect them to count on some known commodities and bet on upside, as they try to make their first playoff run in 2015.

The Lead Farmers are something of an enigma- there is one playoff appearance on their resume (2010) when the then 'Levee G-Men' were third in overall points and made it as far as the semifinals. Their six years have alternated between bad and good, but their past two 'good' years have not scored many W's, despite scoring enough points to be in the top six. With a little more attention to detail, Pete could tweak his squad into a return to elite form in 2015.

Once upon a time, the 2012 Atlanta Rage were so dominant in the first month of the season, there was a push to name them league champions four weeks in. That didn't happen, and after building up from 14th in overall points, to a couple of years in sixth, to fourth in 2012, Kevin Stabe's team has bottomed out. A terrible finish in 2013 led the team to move as north as north could go, but that only saw the franchise slip further south in the standings. Coming off a 2-11 season, there is only one direction for the team to go. North. I mean up. UP!

38 Days Later: Injury Report

We're drawing closer to the most important day of the entire year... 38 days away:

DRAFT DAY AUGUST 16th, 7:00 PM

Jason Pierre-Paul's freak gasoline fight accident has cost the All-Pro defensive end a finger, and perhaps time on the field or effectiveness. The #2 defensive lineman in the game last year, any drop in play would put even more space between JJ Watt, (irrefutably the top defensive player in the league, and #17 in overall points) and the field, in terms of scoring output.

In addition to JPP, lets take a look at other top players that might not be ready to go week one:
This list is not exhaustive- some of these players will be healthy come week one, and many others will be injured before then. Just a primer as of today. Suspended players are listed in BOLD.

OFFENSE:
  • RB LeVeon Bell: Suspended the first three games of the season, pending appeal
  • WR Odell Beckham: Has not participated in team activities with balky hamstrings

  • RB Ahmad Bradshaw: Unsigned, has two broken feet at all times
  • WR Josh Gordon: Might be suspended all season again. Might not be? WTF
  • TE Tyler Eifert: Completely over shoulder surgery so I guess this was unnecessary

DEFENSE:
  • DE Jason Pierre-Paul: Amputated finger, broken thumb, status unknown
  • DE Greg Hardy: Suspended the first four games of the season
